Brighton & Hove Pride 2015

The Brighton & Hove Pride festival is one of my favourite times of the year. I never fail to be blown away by the turnout and sheer scale of the event, and can’t help but get a little choked up by the overwhelming feeling of acceptance for all. After the recent troubles in Jerusalem, it was impossible for me to not have a moment of reflection and think about how very lucky we are to be able to celebrate equality with such openness and joy.

This year’s event didn’t go without hitch, a security alert on the seafront meant the parade was delayed by 90 minutes whilst the area was made safe. It was hot and busy, but the scare didn’t put people off, in fact, I would say this was the best atmosphere I’ve ever experienced at Pride (that could partly down to the extra 90 minutes drinking time before the parade passed us!) and it certainly made us want to stand stronger & prouder to show our support and appreciation to all of those involved.

I want to give a special mention to my friends at Bar7 in Crawley… An award winning venue, and Crawley’s only ‘gay bar’ who have welcomed me to take photographs for them in the past and who have very graciously let me use their space for photoshoots too. Their float was FANTASTIC and I’m just gutted they went past so quickly! Was great to see you all!

Being a ‘day off’ certainly didn’t mean that the camera was left at home, quite the opposite actually and it was a perfect opportunity to capture¬†some street photography, something I’ve been really keen on since my private workshop with James Maher in New York at Christmas.

As always, the crowd delivered and I was spoilt for choice with sights to see and moments to capture. My processing style was a little punchier than my usual look, very befitting of the event and the rainbow of colours on display.

I’ve put the images into a gallery which are free to download, and I’d welcome any use of them in blogs or publications. All I ask in return is a credit to my Facebook page or website. If you or someone you know may be interested, have a look at the link and feel free to contact me with any questions or queries.
