Give Your Wedding an Afternoon Tea Twist!

I first had the pleasure of meeting Dani at The Icing on the Cake (Pop-up Vintage Afternoon Tea) in April 2014 when I organised a styled photoshoot at Wakehurst Place in West Sussex. I was looking for a ‘cake maker’ who would fit well with our brand and stumbled across Dani’s beautiful company and website. We have since collaborated on several projects and I could not be a bigger fan of her work.

Her afternoon tea is sublime and her ‘naked wedding cakes’ are breathtaking… the centrepiece of any special occasion.

I’m extremely grateful to Dani for writing this post for us, and I’m hoping she’ll pop back on a regular basis to share lots of cakey goodness with us all!

Here’s Dani…!

Hi! I’m Dani and The Icing On The Cake is my baby! We offer pop – up vintage afternoon tea catering: delicious homemade cakes and treats (if I do say so myself*), served on beautiful vintage china and linens and service with a smile.

*EDIT – I can also verify that their treats are delicious!! – Lucy 🙂

Born out of my love of cake and pretty vintage things (and a desire not to go back to my 9-5, post baby), I started the business as a maternity leave project and haven’t looked back since (in fact it’s been a bit bonkers!)!

I came up with the idea whilst planning my own baby shower (a vintage tea party of course!). I had a reputation as a baker and had been creating celebration cakes and wedding cakes for a while. Professionally I had worked in the hospitality and service industry and as a PA, so I thought “why not combine all of my skills to provide a unique catering service?”.

My baby shower ended up doubling up as my business launch!

I love how versatile afternoon tea is. We’ve catered for everything from children’s tea parties to weddings and each one has been magical.

It’s somehow informal and formal at the same time and the timeless, beautiful vintage china instantly dresses a table setting.

All of the baking is done by me and our china is all English and genuinely vintage.

I will admit though that really this whole business is just a front for feeding my habit of collecting beautiful vintage china. How else could I justify filling my house to the rafters with stunning teacups and quirky teapots to my ever suffering husband!?

If you’re interested in booking Dani for your wedding, or indeed any other special occasion, do check out her website and Facebook page where you’ll find all her contact details. You won’t regret it!
