Martin & Steph’s Wedding at Baliffscourt Climping, West Sussex

Any wedding involving a golden retriever, a horse, a swing and an outdoors first dance would have me grabbing the camera before the paperwork had even been signed, but couple these fabulously cool things with a friend who I have known for almost 20 years and they just become brilliant additions to what was always going to be a very special day when they had their wedding at Baliffscourt Hotel & Spa, in Climping, West Sussex.

Steph & I met in our late teens when we both had the fortune of working together and became firm friends fast. After a couple of years, work and life took us in different directions and without Facebook we unfortunately drifted apart, coming back together a few years ago thanks to the social networking site.

When Steph & Martin contacted me about photographing their wedding I was beyond excited, it is an absolute honour to be asked by anyone to capture their big day and this wedding had an extra special meaning to me, having known Steph all this time.

On the day of the wedding we met at her family home where the super talented Shelly Bond was making up the girls (Shelly also made the cake!) and I took the time to capture some natural, candid shots of them getting ready. I also found myself getting hugely distracted by Charlie (the family golden retriever), William (Steph & Martin’s Son) and Victoria (Sarah & Jon’s little girl – Sarah is Steph’s sister). Steph’s Mum & Dad, Ruth & Andy hadn’t changed at all since I last saw them, and being back in the Cobby household felt so warm and familiar. Sarah, Steph’s sister was bridesmaid and was doing an excellent job of keeping Steph calm and helping Mum with last minute taxi and travel arrangements for guests. Before departure we were also joined by Dan & Sheree, Steph’s younger brother and his gorgeous wife and Sarah’s husband Jon who was flitting between the girls and the guys, helping to keep Martin on time too.

Whilst all this was happening, Nick was with Martin and his Best Man, and from what I gather, their morning consisted of a ‘Full English’ to help ease the pain of the night before, followed by a trip to the pub (after getting ready of course!).

As us girls (and Andy, and William, and Dan) were getting ready to leave, Steph’s horse Echo made a surprise visit and went on to escort her to the church – what a BEAUTIFUL creature and such a lovely idea!

The ceremony went to schedule, bar a minor delay whilst William and Victoria went to ‘explore’ the churchyard before we’d gone in. Ha! Luckily Sally (Steph’s best friend) was on hand to round them up and before we knew it, Steph was being walked down the aisle and her and Martin were saying ‘I Do’.

We’d planned to spend longer at the church getting photos after the ceremony but the heavens opened so we took a ‘rain check’ intending to do more photos at the reception venue instead. We made the short drive to the exclusive Baliffscourt Hotel & Spa in Climping with the new Mr & Mrs shortly behind. Meanwhile their guests were waiting in excitement for their arrival, ready to congratulate the Bride & Groom.

Canapes and champagne were enjoyed whilst everyone had a chance to mingle and chat, we took the time to capture some candid photos and scout out possible photo spots for later. After the wedding breakfast were speeches, including very heartfelt words from Steph’s Dad Andy and her new Husband Martin.

After dinner there was a brief gap in the rain – Hoorah! So I whisked them off for a few pictures outside, including the swing which I had become mildly obsessed with throughout the afternoon!

After cutting the cake we stepped back outside into the courtyard for the first dance, there was a slight technical fail when ‘Rule the World’ cut into a dance track, causing hilarity for all, but only added to the already fun atmosphere. Upon request of the guests, we did a few more shots outside before retiring indoors for more drinks, food and a spot of dancing.

Thank you SO much to you both for inviting us to be part of your celebrations, it was a pleasure to document your fairytale for you!
