Oake Family Photoshoot at Tilgate Park in Crawley, West Sussex

I have been SO excited about sharing this special family photoshoot at Tilgate Park in Crawley with you all but I wanted to wait until I’d handed over all the images to the family before doing so. Well, that happened last night, so here I am, first thing this morning tapping away!

Lorna contacted me quite a few months ago with the idea of purchasing a family session for her in-laws who were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary (wow!). We immediately set to planning the shoot, a gift that was being arranged between all of the ‘kids’ and settled on a a gorgeous summer’s day in late July with Tilgate Park in Crawley, West Sussex as our backdrop.

There were 13 Oake’s in total ranging in ages from Freddie who was only 3 up to.. ahem, well I wouldn’t be rude enough to say.. but a nice range was covered 🙂

The family were keen to capture a nice picture of them all together, but were more interested in lovely natural, candid images which suited us perfectly.

Nick came along to act as a second shooter, With 4 individual family ‘units’ it made sense to break off and photograph them separately, with us both being able to keep an eye trained on more spontaneous group moments throughout.

We took a fair few pictures by Titmus Lake and on the grassy bank adjacent which had lovely long grass (I’d never seen this like that there before so we took advantage) enabling us to grab some rustic inspired photos with an almost country-vibe.

We then moved around near the huts and set up a mock picnic, this worked brilliantly with the younger kids who were very happy to ‘role play’ much to all of our amusement, using the various props and bits and bobs I carry around on such shoots. As it turned out, the family had come prepared & popped up their own selection of rugs and camping chairs. This worked out fantastically as it meant the adults could sit, chat and just enjoy what was going on whilst the children ran around, creating all sorts of photo opportunities without even trying.

They all dipped in and out of playing football, doing cartwheels, ‘picnic-ing’, climbing over tractor tyres and rolling down the hill. It was so much fun and we ended the session with a group shot involving them all holding hands in a line and walking towards the camera.

We had a fantastic afternoon and captured so many images that it was impossible for Lorna and her family to settle on a final selection. They opted to purchase our hi-res flash drive meaning they now have all the images, forever, which is a super keepsake and meant they didn’t have to leave any of the loved images out.

If you opt to purchase one of our family session USB wooden boxes, they come personalised for you and are made bespoke to order. It’s difficult to describe how gorgeous they look, but hopefully the images below will help give you an idea!

Thank you SO much to the Oake’s for having us, we look forward to working with you again in the future!
